Last night, I met up with Socks and Suspenders and went to a Pop Princess Sing-Along at the Alamo. A-Mazing. I am exhausted, but that’s the most fun I’ve had with a movie screen and a blow-up microphone, well, um, ever.
LINKS! COMICS! VIDEOS! LAUGHTER!
I am a fan of Thinkin’ Lincoln. You know this. So therefore, I am also a fan of Miles Grover (who writes Thinkin’ Lincoln). I can draw connections! He posted this great article about a possible emoticon in an 1862 speech by Abraham Lincoln. Of course, he’d already covered it:
And:
E>8 indeed, Mister Poe.
I wish my kitchen cabinets did that.
Return to the moon … and don’t forget the chicks this time. Well stated T-Rex/Ryan North.
This post is full of Lincoln. This Lincoln is full of … brains?
Me thinks I might start a new work-out regiment this weekend: Star Wars Yoga. (Thanks @hodgman!)
I made this! (Well, OK, I merely offered the idea. But, with every passing day, my dream of becoming famous on the Internets is getting closer to reality!)

People in Austin are ingenious. Someone hacked into the road sign above and altered the message. I doubt it’s Zombie Lincolns, but you never know.
I for one am thankful for the warning. Zombies are sneaky bastards.

Is it really Friday again? Geebz.
I love Max Rebo and his little blue elephanty alien face.
This is an interesting look at Pepsi then, and now. I saw the “new” design a month or so ago in Target and thought it was very retro, in a futuristic sense. I do definitely dig the clean lines. Now, if only they’ll put the logo on Pepsi products other than regular and diet. That Wild Cherry box is garish.
This bed really is the most awesome bed ever. Looks a bit small, but perhaps there’s a deluxe version in the works? Only downside: I’d wake up hungry every. stinking. morning.
Speaking of deluxe, remember this?

Well:

With additional side struts for safety!
The info for this video says:
“Statistically speaking, there’s at least one person on Earth who’s a fan of Eminem and Benny Hill and Doctor Who. This video is for that freak.”
Best part? Around .58, the line “We need a little controversy” is paired with Captain Jack Harkness kissing someone (Ianto?). I love me some Captain Jack Harkness and his 51st Century sexuality.
In Twilight News:
Dakota Fanning as Jane? I could dig it.
The Cullen house in the movie was not the white farmhouse (updated by Esme) of my imagination, but I loved it nonetheless. Boxwish liked it, Design Tavern took a look inside without the Cullens (and made some new Twi-fans in the process), and Apartment Therapy thinks it’s beautiful, even if you care nothing for sparkling vampires (BLASPHEMY!). AT even takes a look at putting together an Edward Cullen-esque bedroom.
And, just for fun:

I adore Katie Cook’s work. Especially this.

So sorry about leaving for a week and not updating or alerting you to my absence. I had a Bits ready to post too … I’ll save it for tomorrow.
The Boyf and I ventured up to the Pacific Northwest for six days to visit the latest addition to his (and mine, I guess, eventually) family.
Little Eden Lilly. She is a love. She’s a little elf child, with tiny pointed ears and a button nose that just makes me want to go:

We had a great time, visited some friends and hung out in Medford, mostly. I didn’t get back to Rogue River this time around, but eventually. I still don’t think I am quite ready to go back. Weird, I know. But whateves.
Some photos:

Parts of the way from Portland to Eugene (then Medford) were really foggy. Very Forksy. *wink* As we were driving, in our rental car with free Sirius radio, natch, “Full Moon” came on. I very much felt like Bella, driving into Forks for the first time. I’m sorry, I can’t quite help that I’m constantly reminded of Twilight.
Then it got sunny.

Then foggy again.

Driving into Medford was a treat … Of course The Boyf reassured me I wouldn’t need a heavy coat. Boo that decision. I now have a cold that proves that listening to him isn’t always a good idea. (Love you Monkey!)

DUTCH BROS! Man, I miss their coffee.
I’m such a weird photographer … I took way more pictures of the road (from the car) than I did anything else.
Mount Hood:

The formerly green bridge (Sad):

This bridge crosses the Rogue River. When I lived there, it used to be green. (It was actually a different bridge, in the same place. I guess the green one got old?) It was a landmark, for serious. Over it and to the right and down a ways is the road I lived off of.
The Rogue River mill:

And, I know it’s blurry, but if you look close:

You can see the white R on the hill in the background. There has always been only one R to signify Rogue River … it’s just that kind of town.
In all, it was a great vacation. I’d like to go back for keeps, at least to Portland, sometime in the future. I miss the mountains and the trees. And the people.
Jasper and Alice make me happy, no matter what form they come in.

And after the morning I’ve had, I need some happy.

Yes, yes. I know. It’s been ages. Moving on …
If you’ve never read John Hodgman’s Areas of My Expertise, you need to. In it, he features 700 names for hobos. (The coolness of which is only one-upped by the list of 700 mole-men names and their jobs in his second book, More Information Than You Require, which I am currently in the process of laughing my way through.) Hobo code is something he touches on, and a while ago Hodgman Twittered about a new form of code … one that is used by children during Halloween. My upbringing was so sheltered.
I feel like I now need to read Pasha Malla’s books too. Here’s how to tell if a girl loves you:
If she hides your shoes when you’re late for work, and from a supine position on the couch plays “Hot/Cold,” and, finally, after 15 minutes of you ignoring her screaming, “Boiling! Burning up!” every time you stalk angrily by the dishwasher, gets up, flips it open to reveal the shoes, sitting there among the plates, and hands them over with a kiss and a giggle, and then laughs some more as you tie your laces in a silent rage: She loves you.
If she calls you at work that day to ask, “How are those shoes working out?”: She loves you.
And also:
If she’s a zombie: She loves you, but only for your brains.
This fan-made Thundercats trailer is astounding. I really wish they would scrap the CG film that’s in the works and go with this guy’s casting instead. I mean, Chianna? Brad Pitt? Vin Diesel? The Spy Kids? Brilliant. (Thanks for the info, The Nerdy Bird!)
Also from The Nerdy Bird:
The 411 on the new Doctor Who. I am really going to miss David Tennant when he’s gone. Sure, the new guy might be awesome (even with his six-head, poor fellow), but DT’s my Doctor. And that’s for serious.
And:
The Forbes Fictional 15. It’s not quite ego-busting enough to read about the richest “real” people who make more money than you could ever imagine, now you can find out which fictional characters do too! Uncle Sam tops the list, but Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias … FTW?) and Lara Croft are too.
Fat cats are awesome.
Mollie totally does that sprawl thing with her legs too, not while her front half is stuck in a box, however.
(More funny cats here. Shout out to my bored co-workers!)
Walking through Macy’s a few months ago, I stumbled across some of this Marc Ecko Cut and Sew Star Wars special edition stuff. Fashion and Nerdery combined. I’ll take one of each. Particulary this gem:

In Twilight news (You didn’t think you’d get away without it, did you?), Taylor Lautner’s keeping the role of Jacob for at least the next movie. I’ll reserve my judgement on his capabilites to seem 7′ tall and 25 until I see New Moon, but he was pretty spot-on in the first film.
And just because I think it’s hilarious (and the cool wHip gag is one of the best Family Guy shticks ever):
(Much love to Socks for the vid.)
