Sleepy Bits

I am so tired today, and I’m not really sure why. I’ve got to rest up for tomorrow—Dallas with Socks and Suspenders to see Paramore and No Doubt!!!—so perhaps I’ll do a little under the desk napping, George Costanza-style.

Onto the good stuff:

This movie doesn’t seem like your typical Guy Ritchie flick …

But holy crap does it look awesome. I am excited. (Excuse my rudeness, but perhaps the end of the reign of Madge helped Guy get his groove back?)

My family has some sweet family portraits, but nothing like the Awkward Family Photos featured on this site. And no. I will not be posting any of mine here.

News of a Buffy The Vampire Slayer film relaunch has been all over the Internets this week. I waffle on my opinion—one the one hand, I love me some SMG et. al.-era Buffy. On the other, I might be able to get behind another slayer+team if they were good enough. I just hope that whatever happens, Joss Whedon is involved in some aspect. He’s pretty freaking awesome and I’ve enjoyed or loved everything he’s touched.

This is one remake I’m giving a thumbs down to, however: Footloose with Chase Crawford … and possibly Miley Cyrus. I … Uh … There are no words.

Ever wondered what happened to the Lord of the Rings crew, after the fade to black? Check this video out. It’s pretty revealing.

These photos:

Are both awesome and a little disturbing. From Ian Pool. He’s got more, featuring Spidey, Batman and Darth V. on his site. (via Has Boobs, Reads Comics.) If I had his last name, I’d be sorely tempted to name my kid Dead.

A Memorial Day Bitsnic

I am once again looking forward to a long weekend. Happy Memorial Day, y’all!

I want a piglet. Particularly this little man:

I kind of wish they stayed this adorable throughout their life, however.

Elliot Burford illustrates e-mail spam:

On a related note, Linzie Hunter creates spam typographical illustrations in her series of Spam One-Liners.

Today I open my e-mail to find that I’m being followed on Twitter by COVERT ALIBI. I’m thinking band, or some rando … so I click through to their page and what do I find?

NEED AN ALIBI? CALL 1-866-941-2229

Turns out, “Covert Alibi is the World’s Leader in Highly Technical Professional Alibis. Fake employment verification, fake job references, fake rental references, ALIBIS!”

Thanks, Twitter?

I am slightly interested in the new Marvel series, Models, Inc., if only because Tim Gunn dons the Iron Man suit at one point. No. I am not joking.

And, this might be more for my own use than yours, but the networks have released their Fall 2009 TV schedules.

ABC

NBC

FOX

CBS

The CW

As far as new shows go, I think I’ll be checking out:

  • ABC: Eastwick, Flash Forward, The Forgotten, Happy Town and V
  • NBC: Nothing?
  • CBS: NCIS: Los Angeles and Three Rivers
  • FOX: Maybe Glee?
  • The CW: Vampire Diaries, natch.

Charlie Bits me! Ouch Charlie!

In honor of The Boyf’s family visiting, I’ve used one of The (eventual) SIL’s ideas for this week’s Bits title. :)

And because who doesn’t love Charlie and Harry:

(I’ve probably already posted this in Bits, but I don’t care.)

ON TO THE NEW STUFF!

I experienced my second “run in with a famous (or semi-famous) person” in Austin last night at Chuy’s. It was the lead singer of a local band called the Black and White Years. I’ve only seen them once, and I’m not a huge fan, so I’m not sure why I recognized him.

Oh, that’s right:

That ’stache is unmistakeable.

I want these Star Trek perfumes/colognes. I don’t wear much in the way of fragrance, but seriously? Pon Farr? Yes please. #amazonwishlisted

I’m not sure what to think about this rumor:

While on a short break from shooting New Moon up in Vancouver, Rob met with Friday Night Lights and Hancock director Peter Berg, who’s also set to direct another big screen adaptation of the sci-fi classic, Dune.

After the meeting it was straight to LAX where he returned to the set.

I love me some Dune, but do we really need another adaptation? The first one is a classic! And the Sci-Fi redo just let me down. The Sci-Fi’s Children of Dune, however, wasn’t too terrible (by Sci-Fi miniseries standards). And, hello James McAvoy!

Working at Threadless is the only reason I’ve ever contemplated moving to Chicago. These pictures of the “offices” are amazing.

Twitter has become the talk of my department recently. I really don’t use mine much, but it’s been a great source of information, both useful and just plain fun.

@mashable posted this earlier, which gave me a giggle:

(Click the photo for a larger version.)

ABC Family is making a 10 Things I Hate About You TV show. This makes me *frown*. The movie is a classic piece of my childhood. We shall see.

The SIL and BIL turned me on to to this gem last night:

Below is the complete email conversation that Adelaide man David Thorne claims he had with a utility company chasing payment of an overdue bill.

Dear Jane,

I do not have any money so am sending you this drawing I did of a spider instead. I value the drawing at $233.95 so trust that this settles the matter.

Regards, David.

And finally: I am a fan of fun, photo-transforming software/tools.

Tiltshiftmaker.com turns your photos into “miniatures.”

An example:

This is what it looked like outside our apartment after a hailstorm *grumble* in March:

Lovely. :/

This is what it looks like after it’s been run through the editing process:

(P.S.—There are a ton of better examples on their Web site.)

Oh, and FYI: Rumor has it that the New Moon poster will be released this weekend in cites around the country. Check your papers!

It’s the Bits, Jim, not War and Peace!

Today is another Friday after a midnight showing. Why do I do this to myself? Oh right … because they’re awesome.

Star Trek is SO GOOD, you guys. I am not joking. My mom didn’t like it, but I think that’s in part because the movie wasn’t what she expected. It wasn’t exactly what I expected either (how did I miss that Nero was a Romulan?), but I liked what I got.

In honor of last night’s showing:

Kate Beaton is awesome. I don’t think I’ve linked to her before, and I am berating myself for it. She draws historical comics. I’ve actually learned stuff through reading her blog. Like I said. Awesome.

A coworker of mine (Hi Kate!) sent me this link to an article on the discovery of the Virgin Mary’s face on a griddle. She’s right, the picture really is what makes the story.

Left-Handed Toons covers the “be friends with this person because you both went to the same university!” Facebook annoyance.

I’m posting these simply because they are adorable:

and I love Katie Cook’s work.

For when you somehow find yourself not in the vicinity of a Barnes and Noble, Borders, Target or one of the many other places that sell books: The Espresso Book Machine. “An ATM for books!”

Some news on the upcoming/in the works X-Men projects. There’s talk of a Wolverine 2, and Ryan Reynolds has officially signed on for a Deadpool flick.

Speaking of Wolverine, the videos aren’t at this link any longer, but there are actually two easter egg endings after the credits roll. I saw the Deadpool one. Both endings were pretty leading; me thinks the Deadpool was was just a little bit cooler. And made the Weapon XI character a little less lame.

Wild Things!

A little preview of the Robert Downey Jr.-helmed Sherlock Holmes (Thanks to The Park Bench!) gives me a *squee* feeling.

And last but not least: There’s a little something-something in the air for Peter and Olivia on Fringe. Although it could happen in the tenth season, yay Polivia! (I can’t WAIT for these two to get together.)

Happy Star Wars Day!

May the fourth be with you. ;)

This is totally one of the greatest images ever to flow forth from the hand of man. Thank you, Hugh Fleming.

These are the Bits, Bub.

Went to midnight showing of Wolverine last night. It was good. I was pleased, and I very much enjoyed the casting of the parts. Remy was disappointing, however. He needed to be more … Gambit. Gambit is over the top. This Remy was not.

Next week: Star Trek. *grins*

Speaking of, I wish I had a spare $1,000 or so sitting around. Amazon’s having a Star Trek sale with DVD sets reduced by like half price. Maybe by time the 2nd JJ Abrams Star Trek rolls around.

This horse needs to be entered (or enter himself, as he seems to have quite the personality) into the World Beard and Moustache Championships.

On the topic of awesome animals, this bear is a family member of the woman who played annoying Violet’s mother in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Really random connections FTW.

I love this commercial. For serious.

The last line slays me.

This Bits is having an animal theme, and I didn’t even plan it that way.

Not an animal:

We saw the preview for this new movie before Wolverine last night. I’d never heard of it, but it’s from Tim Burton and is therefore already awesome in my mind.

And, I would really love to attend Star Wars Weekends. Just to say I did.

These other posters are great too.
