The boyf and I are heading to So. Cali. tomorrow to visit my dad … and to go to COMIC CON!

I don’t think I’ll be posting much while I’m away, but come August, expect a recap post and a ton of pictures.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Bits

Saw HP6 on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (LOVED it). I think that makes five midnight showings this summer? The Boyf and I are racking up a seriously sweet collection of pint glasses from the Alamo.

DOWN TO BIDNESS!

The Nerdist ran a Twitter contest and had people offer up these “Hogwarts Snaps.” My favorites?

  • Yo mama’s so ugly the Dementor’s Kiss was swapped out for a hearty handshake and a promise to give her a call sometime.
  • Yo mama’s so fat it takes two boggarts to shape-shift into her.
  • Yo mama’s ass is so saggy, she’s being sued for copyright infringement by Neville Longbottom.

(Found these thanks to a MoW friend of mine.)

This new still for New Moon got released this week accompanying an LA Times article. It’s neat.

I can feel the *smolder*.

Apple Inc. is rumored to be releasing a “tablet” computer in October. The picture with this article is just a mock up, but dang, it’s pretty.

I never got a laser portrait when I was young. I didn’t even know they existed! Now I am saddened by all of my school pictures with their boring backgrounds. But gladdened by my totally sweet 90s hair.

Wondermark is a great Web comic, or as the site refers to it, an illustrated jocularity. David Malki, the creator, is also a very witty dude.

I was talking with a friend about a Twitter-based fiction contest that he’d seen, and he mentioned that this contest had stipulated genre requirements. So, of course, the conversation turned to how short a story could possibly be and still have some recognizable genre. I postulated that it wouldn’t take much at all:

“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Cancer! On our wedding day!” [Drama/romance]

“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Tuberculosis! On our wedding day!” [Period romance]

“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Nanobots! On our wedding day!” [Sci-fi]

“A final acidic tear dripped down her dying, scaly cheek. Dragon cancer! On our wedding day!” [Fantasy]

“A sultry bead of sweat dripped down her heaving bosom. Lust! On our wedding day!” [Erotica]

“A bloody tear dripped down her already-rotting cheek. Zombies! On our wedding day!” [Horror]

“A final tear dripped down her bullet-riddled cheek. Mobsters! On our court date!” [Crime]

“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Cancer! On our gay wedding day!” [Gay/lesbian]

“A final tear dripped down her goggles to her sprocket-laden corset. Brass poisoning! On our wedding day!” [Steampunk]

Speaking of Web comics, Dinosaur Comics had this really great panel the other day, in a full comic that was also good. But taken out of context, this is so awesome, you guys:

The tears were a’rollin’ down my cheeks.

Missing Bits

Sorry about the lack of Bits this week; work had me away from the computer. Look for them again, next week.

Happy weekending!

We hold these Bits to be self-evident

Happy 4th! I had the day off from work today, and wasn’t sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours straight, so the Bits aren’t quite up to par. Hope you forgive me. ;)

GOODIES!

For my next dinner party, I’m thinking of following one of the recipes from Fancy Fast Food. Like the Spicy Chicken Sushi or perhaps the McSteak and Potatoes.

I am a fan of literary tattoos. I’ve been thinking of getting a Van Gogh quote on my back, which isn’t quite literary, but would fit in with the rest of the tattoos on Contrariwise.

Neill Cameron is in the process of creating illustrations of every letter of the alphabet. I don’t think you’d want to put these up in a nursery, however … at least not the one for J.

Finally, ever since the new 3Gs iPhones came out, I’ve been weighing the pros and cons of switching over to AT&T. This makes another tic in the pros column: Runpee-The app that lets you know when it’s safe to go to the bathroom during movies.

Think I might need to go watch National Treasure.
